Copywriting Tips from the King of Copy, Craig Garber & Dustin Mathews

One of the best skills you can learn for yourself or your business is copywriting. Now, I’m not talking about newspaper copywriting…I’m talking about writing words on paper (or email or webpage) that motivate people to take action.
Let’s just say that you are the best person and can sell everyone you have a meeting with in 30 minutes. If you worked 8 hours a day with no lunch. Then you could meet at most 16 people per day…AND…you’d have to close 100% to get 16 sales. Highly unlikely, right?
But if you could write a powerful email or a sales letter and send it out to 1000 people…and…you could only convert 10% that would be 100 people!
Benefit #1: This can be done all from your home of office
Benefit #2: No paying extremely high gas prices…driving around like a lunatic
Benefit #3: Working smarter not harder!
Benefit #4: Are you starting to see how valuable this skill is?
Copywriting doesn’t come overnight. It’s something you start now and work at. That’s why I write to you everyday (except weekends) to practice! (Hint: that was a tip). Another tip - Rewrite a proven sales letter in your own handwriting!
You see writing is more active than just reading a proven sales letter.
So who do I study? A King of course…the King of Copy, Craig Gaber.

Since, today I’m at a mastermind today, learning what I can do to take my business to the next level, I thought I’d give you a free but incredibly awesome resource.

We just started but I just got a huge distinction…
Craig Garber just mentioned “When you are stuck in your business, you have to look at it as if you were an outside consultant.”
Wow! Seems down right simple right, but how many days do you get up and just start running?

Everyday I train my brain for success. Sometimes I meditate. Listen to CDs in the car. Write out my perfect day.
Well, one of those guys that I study is T. Harv Eker. He’s been explosive in what he’s been able to do in the last few years. I came across T. Harv by picking a copy of Secrets of the Millionaire Mind. Awesome book that explores our “stories” around money.
Crucial to get rid of those bad files that we have. Get it on Amazon and have it in just a few days.

Today I am attending a mastermind group with Craig Garber, aka the King of Copy. I pay over $10,000 a year to be a part of this. Now, I don’t say this to impress you but rather to show you that I highly value you my education. You should always be educating yourself in whatever area you are interested in!

The Power of Testimonials

Hope you had a great Memorial Day weekend. While I’m still recovering, I have an important lesson for you…the power of testimonials.
I don’t care what industry you’re in or if you are looking for a job. Nothing says something better about you or your product then testimonials.
So you might be thinking, “Dustin, how do I get some testimonials?”
ASK!
The rule of thumb is…written testimonials are better than none, audio testimonials are better than written, and video testimonials are the best.
I actually like to have a good mix so my prospect doesn’t become desensitized to one form. Remember people respond differently to different forms of communication. (Ever realize how you like to be taught?)

Santa Barbara Was Friggin Awesome…And Denny’s Was Good Too!

Yesterday, I saw the Pacific Ocean. Now, I’ve seen it before…multiple times. But seeing it in Santa Barbara was incredibly powerful. This picture doesn’t do it justice, but at least you get a shot of it….

I managed to pick up another “gig” as they call it. Last minute deal that we managed to work out. But I didn’t know what to make of it! Check out where I spoke…
Short Sale Genius Trent Chapman and I outside out Denny’s
In case you don’t know, speaking in a restaurant is one of the worst environments. Also I only had 25 minutes to speak! My presentation easily goes for an hour! Oh yeah there were only 10 people!
Some speakers wouldn’t even do it. But I am in the business of transforming lives…getting them to where they want to go.
I guess you could say I’m in the transportation business. And you never know who will be in the room and what will come from it.
So my lesson today is always look for a way to turn those lemons into lemonade. And be prepared. Be prepared to talk faster and remove stories! That’s what I did! What a ride.
P.S. Just got done speaking for a second time today, at the REIN Club headquarters. Peace I’m out. Catching a ride to Denver for my cousins wedding. And yes it’s open bar!

California Day II: Overcoming Objections and Heaven…In-N-Out Burger…

Yesterday, I spoke at REIN Club out in Irvine, CA. Irvine is like the next Silicon Valley. But the crowd was amazing and my speak was incredibly powerful. Practice, visualization and a little more practice got me there!
One of the biggest things you can work on in speaking, selling face to face or marketing is overcoming objections.
You see, a lot of people think they’ll just sweep everything “under the rug.” That will always come back to bite you in the rear. Your prospect isn’t an idiot, so don’t treat them like one.
The key is to “show your warts,” raise those objections. But you better answer them with a good response. So, here’s an example that I use in my speech.
As sophisticated and suave as I look, I’m only 25 years old 
It’s obvious.
So I don’t even try and hide it, I bring it up. Then I show them a picture of Mark Zuckerberg.
“Mark Zuckerberg, who’s that?” you might be thinking.
He is the owner of Facebook that just turned down a $1 Billion Dollar offer from Yahoo.
He just turned 24!
So I ask the crowd, “If I could show you a way to get $100,000 in unsecured lines of business credit in the next few months, would you care if I was 10 years old?”
The answer is of course not. And whenever I do this with the crowd, they get a chuckle!
So go raise those objections but make sure you’ve got an answer! (Hint there’s always a way to overcome objections, just think!)
After speaking I headed over to a little place I call heaven, In-N-Out Burger. Supposedly they have the best burger in the world. So I decided to take a taste for myself!
Absolutely the most mouth watering burger I’ve had! Not good for the health factor but I’m on a working vacation, right?

Public speaking is one of the best ways to get your name out there, collect leads and make sales. And I don’t care whatever business you’re in. You’re creditibility skyrockets and you get to have fun while doing it. Get out of that comfort zone!
Having a great talk doesn’t happen over night, but you can hone your skills at ToastMasters or even in front of the mirror. Or if you are crazy at this like me, you’ll practice in the shower or in the car! (Watch out for the strange looks).
